How the Advisor cites its sources and what you see in the citation panel.
How citations work
Every answer the Advisor gives carries citations. Click the Sources button beneath an answer to expand the citation panel and see what the answer was drawn from.
What each citation shows

How sources are labelled
The Advisor draws on two bodies of material: Nia's own knowledge base, shared across every fund, and your fund's own documents, uploaded through the Policy Hub.
Documents your fund uploaded are named directly — you can see exactly which of your policies an answer came from.
Passages from Nia's own knowledge base are shown to fund users under a neutral internal source label rather than the underlying document title. Nia staff see the full source detail. This is a deliberate decision about how Nia's proprietary guidance is presented, not a limitation.
Reading citations with confidence
Always expand and read the excerpts when an answer will inform a decision. Citations are what let you check the Advisor's reasoning against the primary source rather than taking it on trust.
Coverage gaps
The Advisor may flag a coverage gap — a note that your fund's own material is thinner than Nia's guidance on a particular topic. This is advisory information to help you prioritise which policies to strengthen; it does not change your policy.
When there are no citations
If the Advisor declines a question because it falls outside the knowledge base, the response has no citations. That is intentional: a declined response with no citations means the Advisor found no verified content to draw on and has not speculated. See Out-of-scope questions.
